DELL 8 out of 10 6 out of 10 7 out of 10 i think they have some potential

5/30/2009
Dell computer stock and the company itself seem to be in my opinion losing their edge. I don’t see nearly as many commercials on TV about their computers, which leads me to believe that they don’t think they need to advertise anymore. While I am not a big believer in advertising, I think that for some business and products sold on the market, it is essential. People need to be told why they are smart and sophisticated when they buy products from businesses that have VERY FEW BUSINESS LOCATIONS. In other words some companies like McDonald’s that have actual business locations need to advertise less because their locations, signs, and presence are good enough to attract customers who are interested. Companies that manufacture things like computers however, need to be especially careful with advertising because people forget about their products unless the products are being advertised to them. Dell computers for many years created a name for themselves by advertising so much on TV. Today Dell doesn’t seem to advertise as much as far as what I have seen, and their stock price and earnings are not what they used to be. Is it too late for the massive computer company that is Dell? Will HP and other large computer companies kill off Dell computers eventually whether they advertise or not? The other thing about Dell Computers, is they seem to have a lot of debt in their company. As of the date this article was written they have well over 25 billion in assets but well over 20 billion in liabilities. Why does Dell have so much debt as a company? What are they planning on investing in with the long term debt that the company has? One thing that I try to remember when looking at this company is the fact that Michael Dell was a smart businessman. The company now needs some work in how it’s going to sell its products in my opinion. If we can bring back the ideas to consumers that you are cool when you buy a Dell computer, then the heart of the company should remain and their products should continue to sell. What do investors here think of Dell and computer stock? Will Dell eventually turn around or will they die out?
